Drafting & Prototyping - Newcastle NSW
Drafting & Prototyping
Sketches, napkin ideas and marked-up dimensions turned into production-ready files or working prototypes by a qualified draftsman - then straight into OMP's own cutting, folding, fabrication and coating divisions.
Concept to Reality
Built By People Who've Actually Built It
OMP's drafting and prototyping capability isn't just CAD software - it's decades of hands-on trade experience across the people running it. Between the owners, managers and tradesmen on the floor, that combined background spans boilermaking, structural fabrication, toolmaking, pressure pipes and vessels, electrical switchboards and engineering, civil and structural drafting, cabinet making, carpentry, plumbing - and software development, which is also why OMP's own job-tracking system was built in-house rather than bought off a shelf.
That range matters when a concept doesn't fit neatly into one trade. A bracket that also has to seal against weather. An enclosure that has to house cabling and pressure lines in the same footprint. A jig that has to survive years of factory-floor abuse. Prototyping like that isn't really a drafting exercise - it's judgment built from having actually built the thing before, in a different trade, under different pressure.
Combine that with the same equipment used for full production runs - the laser beds, the press brakes, the panel bender - and a concept doesn't just get drawn. It gets proven, in metal, before anyone commits to a production run.
Prototyping and concept development is quoted individually - there's no rate card for something that hasn't been built before. Send through what you're trying to achieve - a sketch, a rough dimension, even just a problem you're trying to solve - and OMP will respond within the same 1-3 business day window as a standard quote. Email info@omp.net.au directly if it's easier to explain than to draw.
Standard Drafting
From Idea to Production File
Not every job starts with a finished drawing. OMP's drafting service converts sketches, concepts and dimensioned ideas into files ready for OMP's machines - so a rough drawing with measurements is genuinely enough to get a job moving.
If your existing drawings are already usable, there's no extra charge. If they need reworking for production, we'll flag it before we start and note the cost on your quote - no surprises. You review and approve the drawings before anything is cut.
